This study undertaken by Margherita d’Ayala Valva has been made possible by a Getty Library Research Grant, focused on the study of the Umberto Boccioni Papers conserved at the Getty Research Institute. It will deal with Boccioni’s written sources related to technique, involving his controversial relationship to materials and technique, his close connection to Previati’s treatises, the context of the debate on painting materials 1890-1910, interaction between writing, sketching, drawing and colour in the artist’s practice.
