The exhibition More than Meets the Eye: New Research on the Estorick Collection (London, Estorick Collection, 23 September-20 December 2015) is the result of the collaboration between the Estorick Collection and the FUTURAHMA group. The exhibition presents the results of scientific investigations carried out in 2013, 2014 and 2015 on the works of art by Balla, Boccioni, Carrà, de Chirico, Russolo, Severini, Soffici. These have revealed layers of paint hidden beneath the surface of the works as well as the techniques employed by the artists in their creation, revealing aspects previously inaccessible to the eye and opening up new perspectives on the paintings comprising the Collection. Furthermore, through new archival research, the team was able to reconstruct the history of the purchase and exhibition of a number of the Collection’s masterpieces.
